Digg

I did find some interesting articles on Digg, and it was nice to be able just to scroll through the headlines and see what jumped out at me. I'm all caught up on airport security, sugar vs. artifical sweetners and men's sweat! I enjoyed this site and might visit it on occasion to see what interesting news is out there - I like the variety it provides. I'm fairly certain, however, that I would never post any news here. I'm just not a post-er and never will be... maybe I'm too lazy or lack confidence in my judgment about what people would find interesting or just don't care enough about my fellow Diggers to take the time.

It would be cool if there were a Books tab where people could post book reviews or suggestions and any other literary news. I'm not really sure how libraries would use Digg, but I am glad to know about it.

Twitter

I'm sorry, but this site is so annoying! Of course, I've heard of tweeting, etc., but I've purposely avoided it, and now I know why. Maybe I'm rude, but I just don't care what all these people are doing or thinking - even people I know. It's all so impersonal and presumptious to me. I did look into some library stuff - several libraries posted their holiday hours on there, which might be helpful, I guess, but I think a website is fine for that information. I can't really see any reason for librarians to be tweeting... maybe teen librarians who need to appear cooler than the rest of us, but I just find it all irritating. Sorry.

Picture Sharing

Okay - this one could be addicting, but I don't think I'd ever post any photos of my own on there. I went to flickr and first looked up some fabulous cupcakes and some sewing projects that I'd like to do. I got some really good ideas, and it would be a great place to go for that sort of thing - I don't always know what I want to do, but I'm good at copying things I see. I can definitely see myself using it for crafty project ideas in the future. I did check out some library photos, too, and I saw some good ones, mostly of programs (I don't think people are really interested in seeing shelves of books...). I think it's a good way to show what the library does and might peak some interest that way. A couple of good photos is plenty, though - some libraries posted way too many of basically the same thing.

RSS Feeds

This one, I think, will prove very helpful and exciting. I didn't know what to choose, so I went with Elizabeth's suggestion of the book reviews on NPR.org, where I found some books that I want to order for the library's Bio collection, plus a perfect book for my sister for Christmas that I never would have found otherwise!! (Thank you, Elizabeth!) I also added the NYT book and movie reviews, and I do think I will remember to look at those often. The RSS feeds I found will definitely be helpful for work (and my leisure reading and movie-going experiences) and I hope to find more to add.

Blog Reader

Well, I think the Blog Reader is helpful - it does make it easy to follow the 23 Things since they pop right up. The problem is I don't have many feeds that I can think of subscribing to. I am so not into spending time on the computer except at work -maybe it's because I'm doing my grad school online and feel guilty whenever I turn on the computer because I know I should be checking on my assignments or posting something on the discussion board, so I just avoid my computer as much as possible.

Blogging

Well, I'm very excited that I got a photo up!! I'm not sure if I was supposed to do that or not, but it's amazing that I figured it out, so I'm going with it.
